Automatic Transmission Unit Dismounting and Remounting
Dismounting
1) Remove following parts.
Negative cable from battery
A/T fluid level gauge
Exhaust pipe (refer to Exhaust Pipe Removal and Installation:M13A )
Selector rod (refer to Selector Rod Removal and Installation .)
Propeller shafts No.1 and No.2 (refer to Propeller Shaft Removal and Installation )
2) Remove exhaust pipe mounting bracket (1).
3) Remove oil filler tube (1).
4) Remove oil cooler hoses (1) from radiator (2).
NOTE:
To avoid leakage of A/T fluid, plug open ends of oil cooler pipes and hoses right after they are disconnected.
5) Remove torque converter housing lower plate (1).
6) Remove drive plate bolts. To lock drive plate, engage a flat end rod (2) with drive plate gear.
7) Remove starting motor referring to Starting Motor Removal and Installation .
8) With transmission held up on jack, remove transmission rear mounting bracket (1).
9) Move transmission to the lower a little and disconnect couplers. (3 couplers from wire harness and 1 from shift switch.)
10) Remove bolts and nuts fastening engine and transmission.
11) Move transmission to the rear a little and lower it including torque converter.
WARNING:
Be sure to keep trans mission with torque converter horizontal or facing up throughout the work. Should be tilted with torque converter down, converter may fall off and cause personal injury and A/T fluid may flow out.
NOTE:
When detaching transmission from engine, move it parallel with crankshaft and use care so as not to apply excessive force to drive plate and torque converter.
Remounting
1) Make sure that torque converter is installed correctly to transmission.
Refer to Automatic Transmission Assembly Components .
WARNING:
Be sure to keep transmission with torque converter horizontal or facing up throughout the work. Should it be tilted with torque converter down, converter may fall off and cause personal injury.
2) Reverse dismounting procedure for remounting noting the following.
Clamp wiring harness and hoses securely.
Refer to Automatic Transmission Assembly Components for fastener specified torque.
Follow fluid level check procedure in A/T Fluid Level Check for refilling A/T fluid, its level adjusting and fluid specification.
Connect battery, and confirm that engine and transmission function acceptably.
When remounting drive plate, use specified bolts.
