Fail-Safe Table
When any of the following DTCs is detected, ECM enters fail-safe mode as long as malfunction continues to exist but that mode is canceled when ECM detects normal condition after that.
DTC No. Detected item Fail-safe operation (symptom)
icon  P0102 Mass air flow circuit low input
ECM controls injector drive time (fuel injection volume) according to throttle valve opening (closed throttle position or not).
ECM stops EGR control.
icon  P0103 Mass air flow circuit high input
icon  P0112 Intake air temperature sensor circuit low ECM controls actuators assuming that intake air temperature is 20 °C (68 °F).
icon  P0113 Intake air temperature sensor circuit high
icon  P0117 Engine coolant temperature circuit low
ECM controls actuators assuming that engine coolant temperature is 80 °C (176 °F).
ECM operates radiator cooling fan.
icon  P0118 Engine coolant temperature circuit high
icon  P0122 Throttle position sensor circuit low input ECM controls actuators assuming that throttle opening is about 20 °C.
icon  P0123 Throttle position sensor circuit high input
icon  P0335 Crankshaft position sensor circuit
Ignition timing is fixed.
ECM changes injection control system from sequential injection to simultaneous one.
icon  P0340 Camshaft position sensor circuit ECM changes injection control system from sequential injection to simultaneous one.
icon  P0500 Vehicle speed sensor
ECM controls actuators assuming that vehicle speed is 0 km/h (0 mile/h).
ECM stops IAC feedback control.
icon  P2227 Barometric pressure sensor performance problem ECM controls actuators assuming that barometric pressure is 101.33 kPa (762 mmHg).
